A call to the 911 System reporting detonations on the express PR-22 in Vega Baja led to the discovery of a murder at kilometer 38.4 of the road. The victim was identified as 26-year-old Jesus Alberto Rivera Berganzo and was found inside a Toyota Highlander with bullet holes in the body. More than 100 bullet casings of different calibers were found at the scene, along with a shopping bag containing apparent envelopes of white powder and an automatic firing pistol.
The Homicide division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of Vega Baja closed a section of the express in order to carry out the investigation, with Agent Melvin Castellano and prosecutor Lawrence Synder leading the inquiry.
This violent death brings the total number of murders in Puerto Rico to 65 so far in 2024, compared to 60 on the same date in 2023.
In other news, a man remains a fugitive in Yauco, and a large group of agents has been mobilized to find his whereabouts. The man is allegedly responsible for acts carried out in 2017.
