Thus the US is arming the Ukrainian resistance. Phase two of the war is ready

NEW YORK – American intelligence was so confident that Putin would eventually invade Ukraine, that since the beginning of December the Pentagon had accelerated operations to arm the military in Kiev, enabling them to defend themselves. They look at the list of supplies, it is also clear how the strategy was based on the initial slowdown of the first wave of attacks, and then on the creation of a long-term urban guerrilla. The confirmation comes from the declassified documents of the deliveries made by the US and its allies, which the Washington Post obtained and published. In addition, it must be added that several veterans of the American armed forces are offering themselves as volunteers to fight alongside the Ukrainians, who will be able to help both in tactical terms and in the use of the weapons they had already used in other theaters of war. .

The US has pledged to provide various types of war aid to Kiev for one billion dollars, of which 350 million were authorized on 25 February. They were joined by 14 allied countries who lent a hand, from Germany to Italy. It was known that Javelin anti-tank rockets were at the top of the list, which are one of the reasons why the Russian offensive encountered so many difficulties in proceeding on the ground, including the long column blocked at the gates of the capital. And the Stinger Manpads missiles, which instead targeted helicopters and planes, complicating Moscow’s goal of gaining domination of the skies.

Many military analysts were surprised by the substantial absence of the Air Force in the battle. At first they believed that it had not gone into action massively because the plan envisaged the rapid conquest of Ukraine and the surrender of local forces, and therefore would not help. But now this version no longer holds up, and therefore observers are wondering if there are no technical and logistical problems that have also stopped aviation, including the lack of combat-trained pilots and the inadequacy of materials. The effectiveness of the Stingers is one of the reasons why Russian fighters feel threatened, particularly when they have to fly during the day, but then at night they do not have an operational capability up to the task. This would highlight a substantial strategic inferiority, which could prove decisive even in the event of a direct confrontation with NATO. Therefore, President Zelensky urged the creation of a no fly zone, and the delivery of the old MIGs and other Soviet-era aircraft still supplied to the NATO countries that were part of the Warsaw Pact, because he is convinced that his pilots would be able to keep Putin’s people in check.

At the same time, however, the Pentagon has no illusions about how long the Ukrainians will be able to avoid the fall of Kiev. In the absence of direct NATO intervention, these weapons were supposed to curb the initial advance, but then the real game would be played in the long term. So Washington had already mobilized to prepare the Ukrainians for the insurgent guerrilla warfare, which will follow the completion of the occupation. Therefore it had supplied M141 rocket launchers, M500 shotguns, Mk-19 grenade launchers, M134 anti-helicopter weapons, and even special suits to protect soldiers from close range explosions, for example when it comes to defusing mines. All these materials are designed primarily for urban fighting, and show how Americans expect this to be the direction the conflict will go, even after the eventual fall of Kiev and Zelensky himself.

If that’s true, Putin is falling into a trap by leading his traditional war-like advance against big cities. And the Pentagon has already provided Ukrainians with the weapons and training to make them pay for it in the long run, while sanctions bite him in the house.
