Trump’s friend and super-consultant Tom Barrack arrested

NEW YORK – Tom Barrack, the Arab American tycoon close friend of Donald Trump for over 30 years and chairman of the 2017 Settlement Committee, he was arrested on suspicion of acting as a foreign agent on behalf of the UAE. The US Department of Justice made it known, stating that Barrack attempted to promote the interests of the UAE by influencing the foreign policy positions of the Trump campaign in 2016 and, subsequently, the foreign policy positions of the US government in the incoming administration.

Barrack, 74, is charged by the New York Federal Court of seven counts for acting as a UAE agent between April 2016 and April 2018. He is also charged with obstruction of justice and of making false statements to federal law enforcement officers on June 20, 2019.

According to the indictment, Barrack and two other men accused – Matthew Grimes of Aspen, Colorado, e Rashid Sultan Rashid Al Malik Alshahhi, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates – exploited his status as Trump’s campaign outside adviser to “promote interests and provide information to the UAE.” At the same time, “failing to notify the Attorney General that their actions were being undertaken under the direction of senior UAE officials.”

According to the indictment, Barrack was directly and indirectly in contact with the UAE leadership and called Alshahhi a “secret weapon” to further his foreign policy agenda in the United States. Cnn.
