U.S. House Passes Bill to Ban Russian Oil Imports – WSJ

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill to ban Russian oil imports after U.S. President Joe Biden used his executive powers to ban energy imports from Russia.

The bill passed by 414 votes to 17; the U.S. House of Representatives wants to wield significant sway over a widely supported policy proposal in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A Wall Street Journal poll released on Tuesday showed that 79 percent of Americans surveyed favored banning Russian oil imports, even if it would push up U.S. energy prices. Only 13% of respondents said they were against it.

A senior aide to the Democratic leadership said the vote was held to prompt lawmakers to make their positions public. Fifteen Republican members of the House of Representatives and two Democrats voted against the bill.
