Replaced “UFO” with “Unidentified Aviation Phenomenon” to refer to the UFO report of the US government: no threats were raisedFly into the homes of ordinary people

The U.S. government released information on UFOs (UFOs) held by the United States on the 25th, most of which are based on observations by U.S. military pilots. Among the 144 cases of unidentified aviation phenomena (UAP) mentioned, only one is almost certainly Interpreted as “a big balloon that is deflating”.

A number of Western media found that although there was no mention of “revelations” topics of interest to the public, this report emphasized the need to deal with the threat of unknown aviation phenomena to the national security of the United States.

Phenomenon is difficult to explain

According to Reuters, the Office of the US Director of National Intelligence submitted this report to the US Congress. The report was jointly written by a special task force established by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense and led by the Navy. The US government released this report on the 25th, replacing the term “unidentified flying object” with “unidentified aviation phenomenon”.

The 9-page preliminary report stated that from 2004 to 2021, US government personnel or sources observed 144 cases of unidentified aviation phenomena. Most of these phenomena come from observations by military pilots during training. Among them, 80 cases were observed by multiple sensors. According to observers, 18 cases had abnormal flight patterns or characteristics, such as staying still in the air with high altitude and strong wind or moving extremely fast without discernible boost.

The report said that these phenomena may be explained by the flight of natural or man-made objects, such as flying birds or unmanned aircraft, or atmospheric phenomena or advanced defense technologies being tested by other countries.

The report emphasized that military pilots and their aircraft lack the necessary equipment to recognize unknown aviation phenomena. Among 144 phenomena, only one is almost certainly “a large balloon that is constantly deflating.”

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence said: “Our existing data lack sufficient information to explain those phenomena in detail.”

Alien?Inconclusive

Agence France-Presse found that this report did not mention or deny that certain unknown aviation phenomena may be related to aliens. According to Reuters, the report deliberately avoided giving a clear statement on this possibility.

The reporter asked whether these unidentified aviation phenomena could be explained as being related to aliens. A US government official said that this was not the purpose of the military task force’s writing of this report.

Reuters previously reported that the U.S. military has avoided talking about or denying the observation of UFOs in the past few decades, but this time the situation is different. The release of this report seems like a turning point. Due to the lack of official information, UFOs have long been interpreted as alien spaceships, breeding suspicions and conspiracy theories.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said that over the years, U.S. military personnel have reported on UFOs with “excellent capabilities” they have seen. “Their concerns have been ignored or even ridiculed. This report addresses these phenomena. The first step in compiling the catalog is only the first step.”

U.S. UFO skeptic Mike West expressed his disappointment with the report in an interview with a Reuters reporter: “Most reports provide boring explanations, even including birds and balloons, and point out some of what we need. Improve the field of data collection.”

Talk about security threats

The US government’s report highlights the security threats posed by unidentified aviation phenomena. “The phenomenon of unidentified aviation clearly poses a threat to flight safety and may pose a challenge to the national security of the United States.”

After the report was released, the US Department of Defense announced that it would systematize the investigation of unknown aviation phenomena.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner said: “The United States must be able to understand and mitigate the threat to our pilots.”

Federal Senator Rubio said: “The Department of Defense and the intelligence community have a lot of work to do until we can figure out whether these aviation threats constitute a serious national security concern.”
