UK releases first technical briefing on monkeypox outbreak, Poland reports first monkeypox caseFly into the homes of ordinary people

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 11 (Xinhua) Comprehensive Xinhua News Agency reporters abroad reported that the British Health and Safety Agency released its first technical briefing on the monkeypox epidemic on the evening of the 10th, showing that the vast majority of confirmed monkeypox cases in the country were males. Poland reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox on the 10th. Experts point out that avoiding close contact with infected people is the key to preventing the spread of monkeypox.

The latest data released by the British Health Security Agency shows that as of the 9th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases of monkeypox in the UK has reached 366. The results of an investigation of a number of cases, published in the technical brief, were 81% London residents, 99% male, and the median patient age was 38. Of the 152 male patients who participated in the more detailed questionnaire, 151 were gay, bisexual, men who had sex with men, or men who reported contact with the same sex.

Paul Hunter, a British infectious disease expert and professor of medicine at the University of East Anglia, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency on the 11th that the technical briefing once again emphasized the risk of monkeypox transmission. “Monkeypox appears to be spread almost exclusively through close contact, so people should avoid contact with people who may have been infected with monkeypox, especially if they have developed a rash,” he said.

Poland reported its first confirmed case of monkeypox on the same day, Health Minister Nedzerski said on the 10th. The case is currently in hospital isolation, and about 10 suspected cases have been identified.

Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans through close contact. The initial symptoms of monkeypox infection in humans include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, and swollen lymph nodes, which can later develop into a widespread rash on the face and body. Most patients recover within a few weeks, but some are seriously ill. Currently, the World Health Organization assesses monkeypox as a moderate global public health risk.
