New York – The Pentagon has put 8,500 troops on high alert so that they can be deployed to Europe in a matter of hours. Immediately afterwards, President Biden called allies, including Italian Prime Minister Draghi, to discuss the military options available in the Ukrainian crisis. A clear signal of the ongoing escalation which may have two objectives: first, to dissuade Putin from the idea of an imminent invasion, because the consequences would be disastrous and would go in the opposite direction to the American disengagement he would like in Europe; second, to seriously strengthen the protection of the allies in order to prepare them to defend themselves after the eventual Russian attack on Kiev.
