Ukraine, Biden-Zelensky phone call: “We will defend Kiev if Russia attacks”

The United States and its allies will respond “firmly” to an eventual “invasion” of Ukraine by the Russian side. This was reiterated by the American president, Joe Biden, during a telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

According to a statement from the White House, the two leaders expressed “support” for diplomatic initiatives, starting next week with the Strategic Dialogue for bilateral stability, within the framework of the NATO-Russia Council, and at the OECD.

Biden also reaffirmed the US commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed support for confidence-building measures to ease tensions in Donbas.
