The Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghithe French president, Emmanuel Macronand the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz I’m in Kiev to meet the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky. “We will also go to Irpin, where murders took place,” Macron announced upon his arrival in the city, where, as almost every day since the Russian invasion, the anti-aircraft warning sirens sounded.

The three European leaders arrived in the Ukrainian capital on a night train (Ukrainian airspace is closed) from Medyka station, in southeastern Poland, after about 10 hours of travel. The visit to Kiev of the three, who held an informal meeting of about two hours by train during the night, had not been officially announced although the news had circulated in recent days.

After the visit to Irpin, the scene of violence against Russian civilians and bombings last March, in the presence of local authorities, the three EU leaders will be welcomed by Ukrainian President Zelensky at the presidential palace in Kiev for a family photo and the start of the interviews. At the end of the meeting, around 3 pm in Ukraine, 2 pm in Italy, a press conference is scheduled.
