A hearing was held today at the military court of the province of Tehran in which 10 Iranian soldiers are accused, accused in various ways of being responsible for “the accidental shooting down” of the Ukraine International Airlines flight immediately after take-off from ‘ Tehran International Airport in January 2020, which resulted in the deaths of all 176 people on board, including numerous foreigners.
The shooting took place a few hours after the Iranian attack on American bases in Iraq, conducted in retaliation for the killing of Pasdaran general Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad.
“In their complaint, the families of the victims asked for the perpetrators of the incident to be tried and to identify those who have hitherto obstructed real investigations,” said the prosecutor.
The authorities in Tehran attributed the incident to a “human error” linked to a problem in the anti-aircraft radars, offering compensation of 150 thousand dollars for each victim. The foreign countries involved, in particular Ukraine and Canada, have repeatedly denounced the absence of adequate investigations.
