US to stop importing and selling Russian oil
US pressure on Russia is growing. US Secretary of State Antony Blinkn has proposed to launch, together with Europe, a formal ban on the import and sale of Russian oil.
For now, Europe is cautious on this point. Yesterday, Ursula von der Leyen declined to say in an interview with CNN whether Brussels will ban the import of Russian gas and oil.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her colleague in Finance, Christian Lindner, on the other hand said they were explicitly opposed yesterday to a ban on imports of gas, oil and coal from Russia as part of new sanctions linked to the invasion of Ukraine .
The hypothesis had immediate repercussions on the price of oil, which jumped by more than 12 dollars a barrel. Brent rose more than 10%, while the benchmark US crude rose by 10 dollars, to over 125 per barrel.
Due to the war in Ukraine, the price of gold, considered a safe haven for investors in times of crisis, also rose by 26 dollars an ounce to 1,992.90 dollars.
