ROMA – A little girl sitting on the ledge of a destroyed window: a lollipop in her mouth and a rifle in her arms. The image became very viral in a few hours on social networks. A shot also shared by the former president of the European council, the Polish Donald Tusk, just as Poland is among the countries at the forefront of welcoming refugees fleeing the war. “Please don’t tell her that heavier sanctions would be too expensive for Europe,” he tweeted.
However, the girl’s father reconstructs the story behind the shot, Oleksii Kyrychenko, author of the photograph, on his Facebook page. It is in fact a “posed” photo of her 9-year-old daughter. “I took this picture to draw attention to the Russian aggression in Ukraine. It is my rifle – he continues to his father, referring to the weapon in his daughter’s hand – I gave it to him only for the image and it is unloaded”.
