Rome, 22 February 2024 – On the occasion of the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, the State Mint and Polygraphic Institute created the bronze medal called «Two years of Ukrainian resistance», minted by the State Mint based on a student project of the School of the Art of the Medal.

On the obverse, the medal depicts the Berehynia statue, symbol of Ukrainian patriotism and protector of freedom, created by the sculptor Anatoliy Kushch in 2001. The statue dominates the Monument to the Independence of Ukraine erected in Independence Square (Majdan Nezaležhnosti) in Kiev.

The medals

Below, “DCCXXX” to indicate the 730 days of resistance of the Ukrainian people to the Russian war of aggression since the beginning of the invasion. In the background, elements of the map of Europe. On the reverse the “tryzub”, the trident of the Ukrainian emblem, is depicted in a circle.

On the lap, the writing “We will give body and soul for our freedom”, taken from the Ukrainian national anthem. For each medal sold, 65 euros will be donated to the Unbroken Kids rehabilitation center, at the St. Nicholas hospital in Lviv, dedicated to the physical and psychological care of children who have suffered war trauma. In compliance with the necessary requirements on the transparency of charitable activities, the amount allocated to charity will be indicated with a special label inside the package. The initiative was presented today in the Multipurpose Hall of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The event, sponsored by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, was attended by Paolo Perrone, President of the State Printing and Mint Institute, Silvia Maria Rovere, President of Poste Italiane, Nadiya Khytra Deputy General Director of the Unbroken foundation, Andriy Shevchenko, President of Ukrainian Football Federation connecting from Ukraine. The event was moderated by Stefania Battistini, journalist of Tg1 Rai. In the room, representatives of the Italian Government and Parliament, the Embassy of Ukraine, the religious authorities of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church and a delegation of the Ukrainian families seriously injured following the Russian bombings treated thanks to the support of the Unbroken Foundation.
