United Kingdom, Meta accused of abuse of dominant position: compensation of 2.8 billion has been requested

LONDON. A multibillion-dollar lawsuit has been filed against Facebook in the UK and if successful it could see more than 44 million people compensated for ‘unfair’ terms and conditions imposed on users. The class action was initiated by a competition expert, Liza Lovdahl Gormsen, a former consultant to the UK Financial Conduct Authority, who accuses the parent company Meta in the Competition Appeal Tribunal of abusing its dominant position in the market and is demanding minimum compensation of 2.3 billion pounds (2.8 billion euros). Gormsen claims Facebook effectively forced UK users to accept terms and conditions that allowed them to generate revenue from their data.
