The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports, citing the tweet of a reporter on the spot. The accident occurred in the afternoon when a red SUV swooped down at high speed in the middle of the parade. Hundreds of people, including many children, fled in fear. A policeman fired several shots to stop the driver, but the car managed to escape.
The area was evacuated. The number of injured is currently unknown. “Please avoid the area,” Waukesha police said. The city is located 25 kilometers west of Milwaukee. According to sources cited by local media, the injured are at least thirty.
“As we were returning from the parade, we saw an SUV whiz by at full speed along the way. And then we heard a very loud noise and screams from people who had been run over,” city councilor Angelito Tenorio told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “It all happened very quickly,” he adds. The videos posted on social media actually show a red SUV breaking through the barriers and speeding towards the parade site, behind a marching band. The area is manned by the police.
