The bipartisan group of American senators working on the expected arms control reform should soon announce an agreement in principle on the new measures, after the latest series of massacres in the US that also involved an elementary school in Texas. CNN reports this, citing sources “aware of the negotiations”. Among other things, the agreement provides for an expansion of controls on the purchases of guns and rifles by citizens under the age of 21 and funding for school safety.
The agreement, however, does not include several measures requested by President Joe Biden himself, such as a ban on assault weapons and an increase, from 18 to 21, of the age limit for buying semi-automatic rifles.
