Former US Marine pleads guilty to burning ex-wife to death in front of their children

Brian Early Johnston, a former US Marine, has pleaded guilty to killing his ex-wife, Kelly Wilkinson, by dousing her with gasoline and setting her on fire in front of their young children. The incident took place in their Gold Coast home in Australia in April 2021. Johnston was accused of violating a restraining order and setting his 10-year-old wife on fire while their three children, aged 2 to 9, looked on in horror. He also sustained severe burns on his own body in the process. The burned body of the mother of three was found in the backyard of their home. Johnston appeared in court facing a murder charge just weeks before he was to stand trial in Brisbane. Authorities found Johnston semiconscious with severe burns on his body two blocks from his home. The tragic incident has shocked the community and has highlighted the issue of domestic violence.
