A 7-year-old girl was shot dead in Chicago while waiting at McDonald’s for a hamburger in the car with her father, who was seriously injured. The ABC reports, while Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot says she is “heartbroken and angry” about what happened. The family has identified the victim, Jaslyn Adams, while the 29-year-old father remains hospitalized in serious condition.
A McDonald’s employee told ABC that two men jumped out of another car and shot repeatedly at the family’s car. Police reported that the girl was repeatedly shot, and was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, while her father was wounded in the chest. “I’m heartbroken and angry that a 7-year-old girl was killed this afternoon on Chicago’s West Side. This is an unthinkable act of violence. The epidemic of gun violence that takes the lives of our children cannot go on, ”the mayor wrote on Twitter.
