WASHINGTON. The Biden administration wants to ban menthol cigarettes. The proposal, according to American media reports, will be announced this week by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is a breakthrough demanded loudly by anti-tobacco and civil rights groups which argue that the Afro-American community is most affected by the spread of flavored cigarettes. The ban will also affect flavored cigars and cigarillos, the latter being very popular among young people in the US. In Europe and Italy, the sale of menthol cigarettes has already been banned as of May 20, 2020, in implementation of a 2014 EU directive.
