ALAMEDA (CALIFORNIA). American police again under indictment. This time three agents from Alameda, a city in northern California, ended up in the storm for the death of 26-year-old Mario Gonzalez, who was stopped and stranded on the ground for about 5 minutes on April 19. The video shot by the bodycam of the policemen involved was released on Tuesday evening by the Alameda Police Department. The boy’s family accuses the officers of excessive use of force: “The police killed my brother the same way George Floyd was killed,” said the victim’s brother, Gerardo Gonzalez.
The policemen had intervened after a call indicating the presence in a park of a man in a confused state, perhaps drunk. Of the images released Gonzales does not seem lucid, has difficulty answering questions and opposes the arrest: for five minutes the agents block him on the ground, with an elbow on his neck and a knee on his back. The boy screams, makes noises and says he has done nothing: at a certain point his resistance becomes weaker and weaker and he loses consciousness. The resuscitation attempts made by the policemen were useless. An autopsy was ordered on the body to establish the causes of death: pending the conclusion of the investigation into the case, the three officers involved were put on paid leave. Gonzales leaves behind a 4-year-old son and a disabled younger brother.
