The feds ransacked the Manhattan apartment of former New York City mayor and Donald Trump’s attorney, Rudolph Giuliani. This was reported by the ‘New York Times’, citing three sources familiar with the matter, according to which the search is linked to an investigation into Giuliani’s affairs in Ukraine.
Further confirmation came from a law enforcement official who told The Associated Press that federal investigators carried out a search warrant at Giuliani’s Manhattan residence. The former mayor of New York City has been under investigation for his business in Ukraine for several years. Details of the reasons for the search have not yet been disclosed and the official asked the news agency to remain anonymous.

The federal investigation into Giuliani’s foreign business relations slowed down last year due to both a dispute over investigative strategies, and due to the coincidence with the presidential elections which later saw President Donald Trump defeated despite the tactic of appeals against the outcome of the vote, a tactic that found a point man in Giuliani. US-Ukraine relations in the Trump era were also at the center of the impeachment attempt against the former president.
The “Ukraine gate” concerned Trump’s efforts – with the support of Giuliani – of was at the center of the then president’s efforts to attack Democratic rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter (now subjected to a tax investigation by the Department of Justice). Giuliani also met several times with a Ukrainian MP who released edited tapes of Biden in an attempt to denigrate him before the election.
