An Amtrak train derailed after hitting a dump truck carrying garbage in Mendon, Missouri. According to Amtrak and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, eight wagons were derailed and at least 50 were injured. Later the ABC reported that there are also victims, in numbers not yet specified.
The train was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago with 243 passengers on board at the time of the accident, which occurred at around 1:42 pm local time. Mendon is located approximately 100 miles northeast of Kansas City. Yesterday an Amtrak train collided with a car in California, killing three people.
