43% of American millennials (those born from 1984 to 2002) do not believe or have any interest in God. This is revealed by the American Worldview Inventory 2021, a study by Arizona Christian University, which evaluated the worldviews of four generations, including millennials, in fact, but also generation X (which includes those born from 1965 to 1983), baby boomers (those born from 1946 to 1964), and builders (from 1927 to 1945).
The percentage of those who don’t believe in God or think he exists among millennials is much higher than for example in the boom generation, where it stood at 28%. What’s more, the researchers found that nearly half of boomers believe that when they die they will go to heaven just because they have confessed their sins and accepted Jesus as their Savior. Percentage that drops to 26% in gen X and 16% among millennials. On spiritual matters, Americans under the age of 55 are much more likely to distrust the Bible and to believe that God is not involved in people’s lives.
