Vaccine, Von der Leyen “From Pfizer 50 million doses early delivery”

BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) (ITALPRESS) – The European Commission has reached an agreement with Pfizer-BioNTech for the early delivery of another 50 million doses of anti-Covid vaccines. This was announced by the president of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The president justified the new agreement with the need to “act quickly, adjust the game and anticipate”, to avoid other factors “hindering scheduled deliveries”. The reference is to the interruption of deliveries of the Janssen vaccine (Johnson & Johnson group), which occurred yesterday due to some cases of thrombosis found after administration in the United States. “We are doing everything in our power to support vaccine roll-out across Europe,” added Von der Leyen. The delivery of the 50 million doses covered by the agreement, initially scheduled for the end of 2021, will bring Pfizer’s total during the second quarter of the year to 250 million. This constitutes “an important aid” in “consolidating the roll-out of vaccination campaigns across Europe”. The president concluded by thanking Pfizer and BioNTech for their efforts, calling them “reliable partners” whose efforts will benefit “all citizens of the Union”.
