Vaccines, Hong Kong and Macao suspend the use of Pfizer: “Defective packaging of a lot, but no safety risk”

by admin

Hong Kong and Macau have communicated the suspension of Pfizer / BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine after being informed of a packaging problem with a batch of vials. “As a precaution, the current vaccination must be suspended during the investigation period,” the Hong Kong government said in a statement.

Both Chinese cities said their decision came after being contacted about the matter by Fosun, the Chinese pharmaceutical company that distributes Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine in China. Vials with batch number 210102 were found in defective packaging, authorities said.

The Hong Kong and Macau statements did not give any details on how the packaging was defective, but both said they did not believe there were any security risks. Authorities said they have decided to take excessive caution until their investigation is concluded. Some Hong Kongers wrote on social media to say that their appointments that day had been canceled and that some vaccination centers were closed.
