West Bank, Israeli guard and young Palestinian killed

TEL AVIV – An Israeli guard was killed near Ariel, one of the largest Jewish settlements in the West Bank. In the same hours, a young Palestinian died in clashes with Israeli forces not far from Qalqilya. Episodes that risk exacerbating the tension that has already risen to very high levels in the last two months.

The attack on Ariel

In the footage of the security cameras, a car can be seen stopping in front of the checkpoint at the entrance to the town. Two men get out of the car and open fire. One of the two leaves the range of action of the camera, the other climbs back into the car and moves away. The Israeli army has started extensive searches to track down those responsible for the attack.

As in other cases, Hamas praised Ariel’s action but avoided claiming responsibility. “The operation shows that the revolution is raging throughout the West Bank – said the spokesman of the organization Hazem Qassem – This is the implementation of the declaration made by our people that Jerusalem is the red line”.

The clashes in Azoun

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that a 27-year-old Palestinian was shot in the chest during an Israeli army operation in Azoun, not far from Qalqilya.

In the last two months, the situation in the area has become heavy again. 14 Israelis were killed in a series of attacks. Tension has gradually increased in particular at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the scene in these weeks of Ramadan of repeated clashes between Palestinians and Israeli law enforcement agencies.
