WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the number of newly confirmed cases and deaths of new coronary pneumonia has increased again recently. At present, the cumulative number of deaths from new coronary pneumonia has exceeded 5 million, and the actual number is even higher. There are more than 50,000 new coronary pneumonia deaths worldwide every week.

Tan Desai pointed out that the number of new deaths in 56 countries increased by more than 10% last week. Many countries lack intensive care beds and medical supplies, and health workers are overwhelmed. Tan Desai also called on vaccine manufacturers that have not yet obtained the emergency use authorization of the new crown pneumonia vaccine to contact the WHO to speed up the approval process. Vaccine manufacturers that have obtained the emergency use authorization should also give priority to providing vaccines for the “New Coronary Pneumonia Vaccine Implementation Plan”.
