World Autism Awareness Day

The Undersecretary of Family Policies, dependent on the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescence and Family, accompanies World Autism Awareness Day, which is celebrated every April 2 to inform citizens about this condition and build a more inclusive society.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1 in 100 children in the world have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which affects perception and social interaction. For its part, the United Nations established this day to promote the human rights of autistic people and recognize their contribution to society, as established in resolution A/RES/62/139 of its General Assembly.

In Argentina, after the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the National Mental Health Law 26,657, Law 27,043 was passed, which declares “of national interest the comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to people who present Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD); clinical and epidemiological research on the subject, as well as professional training in its investigation, early detection, diagnosis and treatment; its dissemination and access to benefits.”
