Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin accuse the US of interference – Dagsavisen

The West is watching with increasing unease as China and Russia step up cooperation on trade and defense and seek to expand their global influence.

In the hour-long telephone conversation, the two condemned what they call US interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

– The two countries’ leaders are fully aware that the US has in practice introduced a policy of double containment against Russia and China, said the Russian official Yuri Ushakov after the conversation.

Russia sees China as an economic lifeline after the West imposed extensive sanctions as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia gets to export its oil and gas, and China benefits from being able to buy cheap Russian energy, including through a gas pipeline. The Chinese also gain access to Russian natural resources.

Trade between the two countries has increased by 26 percent per year in the last two years, according to Chinese sources. Last year it was 240 billion dollars.
