PIEVE DI SOLIGO. It was the cardinal Beniamino Stella, former prefect of the Congregation of the Clergy, to allow the Diocese of Vittorio Veneto to acquire the birthplace of Pope Luciani, in Canale d’Agordo.
This was revealed by Don Giuseppe Nadal, parish priest of Pieve di Soligo, today Sunday 22 August, on the occasion of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the cardinal from Pievigino, a guest of his country of origin.
The donation was made to the Diocese of Vittorio Veneto three years ago, and on that occasion Cardinal Beniamino Stella, who purchased the property with his own resources, preferred to remain anonymous. The same cardinal also contributed to the expenses for the restoration of the birthplace of Pope John Paul I.
