The aim is for twenty teams and only two are missing from the call. Stop to food and drinks in the stands, to work for a tampon point
BELLUNO. Controlled entrances, mandatory green pass and a great desire to get back to running. Countdown to the 24 Hours of San Martino, the oldest race on the track in Italy, which returns after a year of stop due to the health emergency. The event is scheduled for the weekend of 9 and 10 October and the Pro loco Pieve Castionese has already started the organization’s car. Yesterday there were only two teams to reach the minimum number of registrations, set at twenty.
“In the July meeting, a large number of teams had already confirmed their willingness to participate in the 47th edition of the 24 Hours of San Martino”, explains the president of the Pro loco, Maurizio Fontanelle. «We are waiting for the latest members but we are almost there. We could even reach twenty-one, twenty-two teams ».
Yesterday there were eighteen registered ones, including many associations: “There will be even if this year, due to the anti-contagion rules, food and drinks will not be served in the teams’ stands, except for their athletes,” continues Fontanelle. «The 24 Hours of San Martino for associations has always been a time to promote their activities and raise funds. This year it will not be possible but many groups have shown the will to be there to keep the event alive. It is a beautiful sign ». The restart edition will see the sporting aspect prevail, given all the anti-contagion rules in force. At the moment the names of the athletes who will compete on tartan are top secret.
As per tradition, the stands will be set up outside the track. But, unlike the pre-pandemic 24 Hours, they will not be able to offer food and drink to the public. The only stand where you can refresh yourself will be the one managed by the Pro loco.
To enter the Polisportivo on the weekend of the event you will need the Green pass, but the Pro loco is trying to organize, together with the Ulss and the Municipality, a quick (free) tampon point to allow those without a green certificate to be able to attend. to the race. «There will be a single access to the plant», continues Fontanelle, «because in this way it will be possible to check the numbers of those present. In any case, there is no shortage of space at the stadium and usually people are distributed around the track rather than in the stands ». Speaking of stands: we expect to know if the temporary ones will be mounted, which would take away space from the stands. But the operation seems to take a long time.
Confirmation on the number of actual teams registered for the event should arrive today. Official communication, however, is expected on Monday. “The main sponsors also confirmed their support for the event”, concludes Fontanelle. “This is also an important signal. We are ready to restart with the demonstration, which last year we were unable to organize due to the current health emergency situation. We are approaching the fifty edition with great strides and we are ready to experience a weekend dedicated to sport and track racing ».
