In 2019, a new global joint venture of the Smart brand, in which Mercedes-Benz and Geely each hold 50% of its shares, was formally established, and the cooperation between the two parties has finally yielded results. At the Munich Motor Show a few days ago, the new Smart brought a Concept #1 concept electric car. The impression it gives is obviously different from the previous Smart, the size is larger, and the shape is honestly similar to Mini. The whole car looks very aerodynamic, the roof is made of glass, and the golden and white interiors reveal a sense of luxury.
In addition, Concept #1 also uses a front and back door design. The wheels are 21 inches, there are LED lights on the front and rear, and a 12.8-inch touch screen is installed in the center control position. The electric part of this car is based on the SEA platform used by Geely’s Volvo, Polestar, Lotus and other brands. The car also supports fast charging and OTA updates.
In the future, Smart intends to make Concept #1 a mass production car. Their plan is to build a variety of different car models based on concept cars, including long-lasting models and versions that allow people to experience the “highest level of dynamic control”. The new car will be produced and sold in China in the future. The time to market is tentatively scheduled for next year, and it is estimated that it will be launched in the European market later.
