2024 China Online Media Forum Opens in Kunming, Yunnan
The 2024 China Online Media Forum kicked off in Kunming, Yunnan on March 30 with the theme of “Strengthening on a New Journey and Taking on New Missions”. Representatives from central and state agencies, media outlets, news websites, commercial websites, Internet companies, and other parties gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the current network content construction, as well as the future direction of online media development.
In his speech, Wang Ning, Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, highlighted the importance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s vision for cyber power and the role of online media in promoting the high-quality development of Yunnan’s cyberspace industry. He invited media outlets to document and share the stories of Yunnan’s progress and success in Chinese-style modernization, showcasing the province’s unique culture and achievements to a wider audience.
Zhuang Rongwen, deputy director of the Central Propaganda Department and director of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, emphasized the significant progress made in building China into a cyber power over the past decade. He stressed the importance of adhering to core leadership, promoting positive energy in cyberspace, and driving innovation in online media development.
Fu Hua, president of Xinhua News Agency, highlighted General Secretary Xi Jinping’s commitment to building a network power and the importance of leveraging new technologies to enhance media productivity. He called for a renewed focus on quality content, innovation, and promoting China’s voice in the international public opinion arena.
The opening ceremony also saw the release of the 2023 China Positive Energy Network Excellence list and the launch of the Cyberspace Administration of China’s 2024 online major theme promotion and major topic setting project, as well as the “Look at China with Thousands of Weathers” online communication campaign. The forum will feature 7 theme activities, including the China Positive Energy Network Quality Case Sharing Session and the Internet Culture Quality Construction Theme Forum.
Hosted by the Cyberspace Administration of China, Xinhua News Agency, and the Cyberspace Affairs Commission of the Yunnan Provincial Committee, the two-day forum aims to foster collaboration and innovation in the online media industry, driving forward the development of China’s digital landscape.
