Israel it closed the Kerem Shalom crossing, which divides the Gaza Strip and Israeli territory, after some rockets were launched in the direction of the crossing from the city of Rafah. The Jerusalem Post writes that at least ten people were injured in the attack, and the radical Palestinian group Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. At the moment Israel has not yet carried out any retaliation. The attack occurred just hours after negotiations between Israel and Hamas resumed in Cairo, Egypt, for a ceasefire in the Strip.
The gate, located in the south-east of the territory, was one of the few points from which it was possible to bring humanitarian aid into the Strip. It is located near the border between Egypt and Israel, a few kilometers from the Rafah border, and was closed for several weeks between October and December before being reopened.
