EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson announced today that the European Commission will propose a reform of the EU gas market by the end of the year in order to give a quick response to the violent price shock. Speaking at the European Parliament today in Strasbourg, Simson stressed that the issues relating to storage and security of supply will be examined. “Other ideas have been put forward by Member States and MEPs, such as forms of joint procurement of emergency gas reserves: we are analyzing them all,” he added.
“This price shock is an unexpected crisis, at a critical moment – emphasizes the EU Energy Commissioner -. We must respond together and stay on the path towards a cleaner, safer and more accessible energy future”.
