The Japanese meteorological agency issued a tsunami warning after a strong earthquake, of magnitude 7.3, occurred in the Japanese region of Fukushima. The quake was also felt in Tokyo. It is not clear at the moment whether damage has been recorded at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, the scene of the most serious nuclear accident in history, caused by a powerful earthquake followed by a tsunami on 11 March 2011.
The earthquake was recorded in the Tohoku region, north east of Japan, at 23:36 local time (15:36 in Italy). It had an epicenter in the sea off the prefecture of Fukushima at a depth of 60 kilometers, announced the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), which classified the intensity of the shock at 6 on the Japanese maximum measurement scale of 7 levels.
