Rome, 11 May 2022 – Il Senate americano blocks the provision to transform the historic Supreme Court ruling which he legalized abortion in the United States. The law was presented by the Democrats to oppose the position of the Supreme Court decided, by a majority, to revoke the 1973 ruling Roe v. Wade which recognized the right for women to resort to abortion, regardless of the will of individual states. The measure needed 60 votes to be approved instead it was blocked with 49 votes in favor compared to 51 against. The Republicans all voted against, while in the Democratic ranks only the senator Joe Manchin he sided with the conservatives.
Joe Biden rejected the Republicans’ no in the Senate: “Once again – said the president of the United States – while fundamental rights are at risk in the Supreme Court, the Republicans of the Senate have
blocked the passage of the Women’s Health Protection Act, a law that protected access to reproductive health care. “
“This failure – continues Biden – comes at a time when the constitutional rights of women are the object of an unprecedented attack and goes against the will of the majority of the American people”.
