The world economy will grow 5.6% this year, the fastest post-recession rate in 80 years. The World Bank predicts this by revising the previous estimate of 4.1% upwards. The recovery was driven by the United States and China, which grew by 6.8% and 8.5% respectively.
Despite the recovery, global production remains about 2% below the pre-pandemic forecasts for the end of 2021. “The pandemic continues to inflict poverty and inequality in developing countries,” said the president of the World Bank, David Malpass, underlining the need to accelerate the distribution of vaccines.
