BANGKOK – In the decades he practiced as a lawyer in Myanmar, U Khin Maung Zaw he has lost almost all causes. His record fills him with pride. “My motto, and that of all those who defend human rights in Myanmar, is simple,” he said. “The cause is lost, long live the cause!”
Khin Maung Zaw is 73 years old and today represents yet another client who is unlikely to receive a fair trial: it is Aung San Suu Kyi, the 76-year-old exponent of civil rights in Myanmar, whose elected government was ousted in an army coup last February.
