An online market open to everyone, even to those who do not have a VAT number and a Metro card. A revolution for Metro Italia that has always been accessible to all holders of VAT numbers. Now with Mercato Online the retail giant aims to offer customers a Ho.re.ca. non food more extensive and specialized, always available and delivered throughout Italy. This new project, created to meet the changing needs of customers and new digital-first consumers, offers a wide range of non-food Horeca products and marks a further step in Metro Italia’s strategy, which enhances the online services available to customers. from all over Italy, including those who are currently not reachable from physical stores. The Online Market also aims to enhance Metro’s non-food offer with the widest and deepest assortment ever.
The marketplace platform, in fact, makes a wide choice available: in addition to the products present in the Metro Italia warehouses, it is also possible to access those of the suppliers, who, thanks to the Online Market, can directly sell their assortment managing the shipment to the end customer. The project thus strengthens the partnership with Metro’s trusted suppliers: 70 companies have signed up to the platform and several new partners will join in the coming months. To support this new project, Metro Italia has built a new warehouse in Casei Gerola, in the province of Pavia, entirely dedicated to supporting the operations of the Online Market.
The new depot is located within a Leed Platinum certified logistics center, designed with particular attention to a green and sustainable future and located in a strategic area of Northern Italy, close to major motorways. Launched by Metro globally in 2019 , the online marketplace now operates in Germany and Spain with over 600,000 products related to the Ho.re.ca. and represents a pillar of the “sCore” corporate growth strategy to 2030. Metro Italia, with a staff of over 4 thousand employees, is a leading international specialist in the wholesale and food sector, present in Italy in 16 regions with 49 wholesale outlets, offering its customers the possibility to choose integrated between different procurement methods according to specific needs: from delivery (Food service distribution) to Cash and Carry. The distribution network is completed with two depots respectively in the metropolitan areas of Milan and Rome, dedicated exclusively to FSD.
