Myanmar, the protest of Easter eggs

Opponents of the military government in Myanmar choose the Easter egg as a symbol of defiance, posting images of eggs with anti-government slogans after a night of candlelit vigils across the country to remember the dead since February.

The Political Prisoner Assistance Association, an anactivist group that has been monitoring casualties and arrests since the military overthrew the elected government of Nobel laureate AungSan Suu Kyi, said the death toll has risen to 557.

“People across Burma continued to strike for the end of the dictatorship, for democracy and human rights,” the group said.

Despite the killings, protesters go out every day, often in small groups in small towns, to fight against the return to military rule after a decade of attempts to move towards democracy. At night people gather with candles
