The Ivory Coast footballers qualified for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations tonight, as they beat Mali in Buake after extra time with 2:1. After the regular part of the match, the score was tied at 1:1, and this is the first match at the African Championship that was decided during an extra 30 minutes. Two matches of the round of 16, which went to extra time, were won only after penalties.
Mali took the lead with a goal by Dorželes Nene in the 71st minute, and the host of the tournament equalized with a goal by Simon Adingr in the 90th minute. Umar Diakite scored a goal in the second minute of extra time for Ivory Coast to reach the semi-finals.
Ivory Coast played with one less player from the 43rd minute, as he received a second yellow card Run of Odilon. Although Mali was in the lead, it failed to preserve its advantage and despite the surplus of players, it was eliminated from the tournament.
In the semi-finals, Ivory Coast will play against Congo.
