Mosquito Disinfestation Urgently Started in Busto Arsizio After Suspected Case of Dengue
Residents in Busto Arsizio, located in the Varese region of Italy, are on high alert after a suspected case of dengue fever was reported in the Sant’Edoardo district. The municipality has wasted no time in taking action, immediately initiating a mosquito disinfestation procedure in the surrounding areas to prevent the further spread of the disease.
The disinfestation operations began on Friday, March 22nd, between 10pm and midnight/1am and will continue for three consecutive days, concluding on Sunday, March 24th. The focus of the operation is on the areas around via Ipplito Nievo, where the infected resident resides.
In response to the alert raised by the Ats (Health Protection Agency) Insubria about the suspected dengue case, the Municipality of Busto Arsizio has taken swift action to protect public health. Dengue fever is primarily transmitted by the Aedes genus mosquito and can lead to serious health complications if left untreated.
The administration is advising residents not to consume fruits and vegetables from their gardens for at least 30 days following the disinfestation procedure. They have also issued an ordinance requiring residents, condominium administrators, commercial operators, and others in the affected area to take preventive measures such as using mosquito repellents, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating any stagnant water sources that could serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The disinfestation treatments will involve both adulticidal and larvicidal methods prescribed by the Ats to effectively target the mosquito population in the area. Residents are urged to cooperate with the authorities and follow the recommended precautionary measures to minimize the risk of contracting dengue or other mosquito-borne diseases.
The municipality is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and will continue to monitor the situation closely. By working together and taking proactive steps, the community can effectively combat the spread of dengue and other mosquito-borne illnesses in Busto Arsizio.
