American actor Kevin Spacey has responded to new abuse allegations made against him in the yet-to-be-aired documentary Spacey Unmasked. He denies that there was any illegal behavior.
The two-part documentary will be broadcast on May 6 and 7 by the British channel Channel 4. Ten men accuse the 64-year-old actor of sexual violence. It would also involve new accusations. Spacey announced on Thursday via the social networking site X that he has asked the channel for seven days to respond to the accusations. Channel 4 denied Spacey’s request, the actor said.
In an interview with independent journalist Dan Wootton, Spacey opposes the accusations. “Have I ever had a thing with another actor? Yes. Have I ever made an awkward attempt at someone who ultimately turned out not to be interested? Yes,” says Spacey. “That may not have been the best decision and it’s a decision I wouldn’t make again today. But it happened and it wasn’t illegal.”
Spacey also calls the documentary “one-sided.” “I will not sit back and be attacked by this documentary from a dying channel in a desperate attempt to gain ratings.”
Sexual abuse
In the wake of the #MeToo movement, several victims had come forward in 2017 accusing the actor of sexual abuse. That led to an abrupt interruption of the two-time Oscar winner’s career. Spacey also had to leave the popular Netflix series ‘House of Cards’.
Spacey has always denied the allegations. Courts in New York and London acquitted him.
