Rome, November 14, 2021 – Alberto Livoni, the cooperative 65-year-old Italian detained in custody in Ethiopia in recent days, “it has been released and is in good condition”. The news was given by Vis, the international volunteering organization for development (Vis) he works for. Livoni ended up in prison three days ago on charges of helping Tigrinya refugees.
There remains apprehension for the two local operators del Vis still in custody: “We continue to follow their situation, also hoping for their immediate release”, reads the note published by the NGO. Livoni, of Emilian origin, was taken from his home in Addis Ababa after a raid by the Ethiopian security forces together with the two operators of the local staff of the Vis. The NGO, very active in the north of Tigray, supports the Salesians in schooling and professional training projects for young people.
