7SeasMed, green light from MASE to the offshore wind farm in Sicily

The 7SeasMed project, the result of the collaboration between GreenIT (joint venture between Plenitude and Cdp Equity) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, dedicated to the construction of a floating offshore wind farm off the western coast of Sicily, has successfully passed the environmental impact assessment of the ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

This represents the first environmental impact assessment approved in Italy for an initiative of this kind. The wind farm, which will have a production capacity of approximately 250 MW, will be located approximately 35 kilometers from the coast of Marsala.

Together with other floating offshore wind farm projects located near the coasts of Sardinia and Lazio, 7SeasMed is part of a large initiative promoted by GreenIT and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners together with several Italian development companies. These projects, which overall reach a capacity of 3 GW, are able to cover the electricity consumption of almost 2.5 million families, according to estimates based on 2021 Arera data relating to average annual consumption.
