Aldi Süd has launched its own fitness app called “Aldi Sports”.

The app offers personalized training programs, fitness videos, cooking recipes and a discount membership to the fitness chain McFit, as the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reported.

“Aldi Sports” will remain free and will be expanded to include additional functions such as calorie counters in the future, according to the report.

Aldi Süd has launched its own fitness app called “Aldi Sports”. This is the beginning of an offensive in the fitness market for the discounter, according to a report from “South German newspaper“.

The app has been on the market since December and is aimed primarily at beginners who want to actively do something for their health. Users can select personalized training programs and access suitable fitness videos via the app. There are also cooking recipes in the app that consist of Aldi foods.

A special highlight of the app is the option to purchase a discount membership to the fitness chain McFit. McFit is part of the RSG Group, the fitness group of the late entrepreneur Rainer Schaller. The company is considered the leading provider of fitness studios in Germany.

With “Aldi Sports”, the supermarket chain also wants to revolutionize the fitness market. “The download numbers would have exceeded our wildest expectations, even though we hardly advertised,” said Kai Schmidhuber, managing director for digital at Aldi Süd, to the “SZ”.

In the first two weeks after its launch, “Aldi Sports” was already one of the three most downloaded fitness and health apps. Aldi is now planning to further expand the app and introduce additional functions such as calorie counters. According to Schmidhuber, the offer should remain free.

In addition to the fitness app, Aldi Süd has already successfully launched sports nutrition onto the market under the “Aldi Sports” brand. Protein bars, powder and shower gel are now an integral part of the range. With the app, these products should also receive an additional sales boost.
