National space agencies and African companies in the space industry sector are meeting from yesterday, April 2, until Friday, April 5, in Luanda, to identify mechanisms for the continuous insertion of geospatial technology at the service of the economic development of the continent.

The conference, themed “The role of space in reducing the poverty gap in Africa”, will highlight the transformative potential of space initiatives in addressing socio-economic disparities in Africa and will serve as an avenue to discuss the best approach to derive advantage of space technology, including satellite, remote sensing and geospatial data.

According to a press release from the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), the goal of the event is to revolutionize several sectors, such as agriculture, healthcare, climate change, security and infrastructure development.

To this end, the document clarifies that the conference will explore all aspects of space and satellite technology, including political and commercial opportunities in Africa, while highlighting the potential impact of cooperation frameworks between stakeholders to achieve common goals in the sector and on the continent.

According to the note, as African governments intensify efforts and investments to develop their local space ecosystems, more and more commercial companies are taking root on the continent and there is a need to create environments conducive to the development of innovation.

This conference, as Africa’s premier space event, will bring together decision makers from several African governments, national space agencies, industry leaders, “NewSpace” companies and high-level stakeholders from all segments of the continent’s space industry .
