Automotive Data Security Faces New Challenges
The automotive industry is facing a new wave of challenges as statistics from relevant departments reveal over 2.8 million malicious cyber attacks targeting vehicle companies and Internet of Vehicles information service providers since 2020. In 2023 alone, more than 20 data breaches related to car companies occurred across the country, highlighting the increasing vulnerability of car data security.
A recent report titled “Intelligent Connected Vehicle Data Security Annual Insights (2023)” released by the China Association of 100 Electric Vehicles and Tencent Cloud shed light on the data security status of several car companies. The report indicated that while car companies have generally achieved a high level of car-side security, they face significant challenges in data classification, data encryption and decryption, and leakage prevention.
Shi Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of the China Electric Vehicles Association of 100, emphasized that automotive data security represents a new area of intersection and integration between the automotive industry and the information security industry.
While most car companies have established relatively mature data security management systems and dedicated teams, the widespread distribution of data throughout enterprise R&D, production, and circulation has made effective data management more difficult. Moreover, the report predicts that AI technology innovation in 2024 will bring new automotive data security risks and challenges, necessitating proactive prevention measures.
Li Bin, general manager of Tencent Cloud Security, stressed the importance of comprehensive and proactive digital security capabilities to protect data from external threats. He emphasized the need for data protection at various levels, including boundaries, endpoints, application development, security operations, and data security governance.
As cars, roads, clouds, networks, and images continue to develop collaboratively, data security and car-side security are becoming crucial factors influencing consumer car purchase decisions and the development of car companies. Standardizing automobile data security and promoting the digital transformation of the automobile industry will be essential in ensuring high-quality development and overcoming new challenges in the automotive sector.
