The monitoring on the electricity and gas retail markets published today by Arera certifies the changes in the habits of citizens in the choice of energy suppliers, mainly determined by high bills and the need to save on energy costs. This was stated by Codacons, commenting on the study released today by the Authority according to which 59.7% of households in the electricity sector switched to the free market, 62% in the gas sector, with strong growth in 2021 compared to the previous period.

“It is clear that the sharp increases in bills recorded starting from 2021 have changed user behavior, making the market more dynamic and leading an increasing number of consumers to change supplier and switch to the free market – explains the president of the association. Carlo Rienzi – This happens because families, in order to cope with rate increases, seek savings by comparing offers and opting for a change of operator “.

The Codacons, however, points out that the transition to the free market does not always lead to a real economic advantage for users: in fact, Arera monitoring certifies as in 2021 for electricity only 8.85% of the offers available on the free market were found to be cheaper than the higher protection regime, a percentage that rises to 14.58% of gas offers.
